The Magic 

Earning the nickname “Magic” is no easy feat as it now symbolizes greatness, brilliance, and irresistible charm. Earvin “Magic” Johnson, a name that has echoed through the annals of basketball greatness, is a former professional basketball player often regarded as the best point guard of all time. Magic’s illustrious career with the Los Angeles Lakers includes five championship wins, an MVP award, and three Finals MVPs. Today, Magic continues to enchant us as a visionary businessman, co-owning the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Dodgers, and LAFC. His journey from basketball courts to the business world exemplifies a kind of magic that goes beyond any other.

Dinner Time

Imagine an evening where fine dining and inspiring conversation converge. That's precisely what our Legends Dinners offer-a chance to savor exquisite cuisine while engaging with a sports icon. On August 2, guests were treated not only to a mouthwatering meal from The Pines Modern Steakhouse, but also to an intimate, personal interaction with Magic Johnson himself. As he mingled with the crowd, Magic answered a range of questions, from insights into his legendary career to advice on navigating the world of business.

The evening was brimming with delightful surprises. One guest gifted Magic a personalized apron for his barbecuing adventures, and to no surprise the basketball star graciously posed for photos with her and the aprons. Adding to the night’s charm, a family remembered it was Magic’s birthday just a few days prior and rallied the crowd for a heartfelt rendition of "Happy Birthday."

The night was further elevated by the presence of notable figures like sports commentator Jim Hill, who enjoyed the festivities among the guests. Meanwhile, sports TV personality Stephen A. Smith joined Magic on stage for a riveting interview. Magic shared personal stories and heartfelt reflections, emphasizing the pivotal role of his wife, Cookie Johnson, in his success. He explained, “My wife Cookie Johnson has been a big part of my life, and she has had an impact on where I am today.” He also spoke warmly of his father, highlighting the foundational lessons that shaped his dedication and professionalism from a young age. Throughout the interview the crowd broke into laughter as “Magic” would tell never-before-heard stories about his time in the league. One of the greatest moments throughout the night was when he stood up and had the crowd follow along in a tribute to the great Kobe Bryant. He went on to say, “That’s what Laker fans do. We always love our own.”.

As the event drew to a close, guests had the chance to capture photos with “Magic” Johnson. Guests walked up and shared a few words with him, and then posed for a photo they’ll have forever. Once guests took their photo, they were able to pick up their very own signed basketball. The night was a testament to the extraordinary gift of sports and storytelling, leaving attendees with cherished memories and a signed piece of basketball history.
