As Frankie J wrapped up his sound check session at Tukut Lounge, fans started to make their way through Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel for a night filled with nostalgia. The sold-out crowd surrounded the stage and danced to every song from Grammy-nominated musician, from “Obsesión (No Es Amor)” to “Suga Suga”.
After the concert, Frankie J spent some time with The Y Report to talk about his favorite pair of shoes, how he prepares for shows and his favorite game to play when he’s at a casino.
What was the first concert you attended?
I was about 7 years old and watched Menudo. This was in El Toreo de Tijuana, back in 1984.
What are your favorite pair of shoes?
That’s a tough question because I’m a big sneaker fan. The most comfortable shoes that I wear are the Yeezy slides. Those are really comfortable.
How do you prepare for a concert?
To be honest, I don’t really prep. I’m just out there and perform, there’s no ritual. I always say a prayer before I go on stage, but I don’t really have anything specific. I just go out there and knock it out.
Which do you prefer: slot machines or table games?
That’s a good question because it’s fun to play the slot machines -- it’s fun to see all the graphics. But tables are fun, too. I’ll say tables because every now and then, if I’m feeling lucky, I’ll play roulette. I’ll play with my guitarist, and he’ll tell me how to bet, like ‘go red’ or ‘go black’. I’ve never been a big gambler, but when I do play, I always win.
